1. What is BarCamp Malaysia in your own words?
A conglomerate casual gathering of enthusiasts in any area or field, coming together to have a friendly chat sharing information on their passions.
2. What do you do?
I love Web development and a bit of multimedia, but I am kind of stuck in a software engineering job with a banking solutions provider.
3. How you got involved in barcamp malaysia?
It was supposed to be a normal ruby on rails meet up and the president (Kamal) of the group placed another item in the agenda titled “BarCamp”. So I stayed for that and got involved in it probably ever since. :)
4. Tell us a little what we expecting in your session for BarCamp Malaysia
Well, I may not be doing a session on my own. But if I do, I would likely be making a very casual 101 style presentation on either the Joomla content management system or doing live broadcasts using one of the available platforms out there now. Most likely, I would use www.justin.tv as an example.
I was really thinking of doing an Asterisk (www.trixbox.org) presentation, but I do not have the proper hardware. That one is one really powerful thing.
If I don’t track out on my own, I would be involved in a few discussion panels, talking about failures (Fail Camp). Doing such silly things like making a fool of myself presenting a nonsensical PowerPoint slide (PowerPoint Karaoke). Also I might be helping to compare various content management systems with the Drupal content management system.
5. What other sessions you find interesting?
Hmm, the BLOBs in MySQL is … hey! How did the BLOBs session disappear suddenly?
Widgeous is kind of obscure now. But I am guessing it has something to do with widgets? Tiny programs that you “paste” on your computer desktop or Website to do something special. Like a Google Adsense banner is a widget. Or an embedded Youtube video is a widget.
Another one would be all those Silverlight stuff, since I might plan to get back to developing on the big M. Microsoft, I mean. I did this simple animation (a rectangle moving from left to right) and am amazed at the fluidity of the animation. Seems better than Adobe Flash (sorry).
Of course, which Web fan could forget the Drupal content management system. Many sessions there.
Mobile Internet would be nice. WML pages may have died out, but are being resurrected as new media.
p2p2p would be fun to watch.

1. What is BarCamp Malaysia in your own words?

Barcamp Malaysia is a place to share.

2. What do you do?

I do a lot of things. If you insist here’s my standard bio ;p

Arzumy has been hacking around since he first learned to use the computer. He went on and won all categories in the National Hacking Competition 2005. Being a natural Jack-of-all-Trade, he could code in almost any language, but his current favourite is Ruby on Rails.

Always finding himself transcending between business, development and design, he sees a need for more business minded developers in Malaysia. He leads a group of freelancers in JomCode and is set toward making freelancing as a professional career of choice.

When he’s not writing code, he’ll write poetry on Gelanggang Puisi. Passionate about reading, he’s working on JomRead project for book lovers. Loves grilling barbecue (so don’t forget to invite him over when you have a BBQ party).

3. How you got involved in BarCampMalaysia?

Kamal used Werewolf as a bait. Elegant trickery I must say…

4. Tell us a little what we expecting in your track for BarCampMalaysia

Every developer will face this at least once in his life – the seduction of freelancing. It could be your cousin, your friend, your teacher, your dog, your friend’s friend, Mr Raju; Someone must have asked you to develop something for them. It must have been fun, getting paid for your actual skill (provided they did pay you of course), and most of the time you’d leave it at that. I’m going to show you how to take it to next level.

In our section where we’ll cramp business, entrepreneurship, development and design so you could relate to no matter who you are. We’ll show you that work = fun + money.
